Inspired by nature, man has adopted
as supreme goal of being free in this world.
By discovering the fire, adopting
the agriculture, inventing the wheel and many others, the man tried to become
independent in his relation with the environment. At the same time, using these
progresses that man has done, he could know the infinite universe, in which he
can travel not only in each part of this planet, but also in Universe.
Therefore, man has tried to become
independent, to break any boundaries. But simultaneously with the desire to
become independent, people have discovered ways to enslave others or even to
enslave themselves by becoming addicted to habits or toxic substances.
The computer addiction, TV
addiction, gambling addiction, pornography addiction, medicines addiction,
alcohol addiction, smoking addiction or drug addiction… these and many other
kind of addiction, enslaved some people by creating a false image that they
found the liberty which they were looking for. It’s true that they become free,
but in a world of the vice, a virtual world created by the one who wants to
escape from reality and to enter into a world of imaginary with the help of a
hallucinogenic substance or activity which seems to hypnotise this person.
According to the Romanian Language’s
Explanatory Dictionary, addiction is defined as "the situation of being
dependent, status or relationship of subordination" and in medical terms
it is defined as "a state of chronic intoxication resulting from repeated
absorption of a drug or medicine which is manifested by the need to continue
the absorption ".
As I mentioned before, not only
chemical substances make the man become addicted. Regarding to it, the frequent
activities have the tendency to become addiction for the person concerned. As
chemical substances that cause addiction, there are some frequent activities
which have the tendency to bring the same well-being to the person concerned.
So these actions are transformed into chemicals inside of us, changing
perception of reality.
But what are the reasons why people
choose to take drugs? I think the reasons may vary. Maybe some people choose to
take drugs for the following reasons:
• Because they want to feel integrated into
a group, to be like others
• Because they want to relax or escape from
a stressful situation.
• Because they are bored, in this way they
are trying to bring something new and dynamic in their lives
• Because they are influenced by the media
that makes the drugs to seem more attractive
• Because they think that in this way they
will seem more mature in front of others
• Because they want to feel rebels
• Because they want to experience
Whatever the reasons, those who use
the drugs will not find in it an answer for their problems, but they will find
a new problem that often turns out to be greater rather than the problem they
tried to solve initially.
How drugs work?
Basically all drugs are toxic substances.
The effect is determined by the amount consumed.
So if drugs are consumed in an
"small” amount they can have a stimulating effect, in an "medium” amount, they
can have a sedative effect and in an "large” amount, they can even kill you.
Regarding the dosage, it depends from person to person and your emotional state
and health. So what was once the "small amount" can be next time
"large amount" . It can be like they are playing Russian roulette
each time when they consume the drug.
All drugs affect the mind making the
person concerned to act irrational, inadequate and even destructive. Also
sensations are affected perceptions will be damaged and the actions of the
person concerned will be inadequate.
It is interesting that after some
time subsequent to the first meeting between the addict and the drug, the
addict will renounce increasingly to reality, adopting dream as reality.
Unfortunately not many of them have the chance to return to reality…
Life is beautiful and to see it like
it is, we don’t need drugs or other chemical substances. Of course, each of us
is free to act like he wants, but what's the point of risking your spiritual
and physical freedom by being addicted or arrested as a result of actions that
you have taken during the time you were under the influence of these
substances.
Thinking about drugs I remember what
a man with a bigger life experience rather than mine’s, told me referring to
drinking alcohol: "Why to drink alcohol? I am quite stupid and I cannot
afford to become even worse than I am! "
Perhaps the first glass of alcohol
gets you drunk and relax you, maybe the first cigarette relax you, maybe the
first substance injected makes you dream, but you can’t know if the "first
time” can be synonym with "the last time” when you enjoy the dream.
Maybe you'll not die after the first
try, but are a lot of chances that the first try can mean the moment when you
started to not be as free as you used to be once ...
