For those who are patriotic, the
colours of national flag are so important like the national anthem, emblem or
history. The flag is a way to identify through which anyone can feel not only a
simple citizen of that country, but even more, an active part of what his
country means in the world.
For me and for other Romanians, the colours
of national flag are sacred and I keep them deep in my soul, in the memory of
my ancestors.
The same I can say about Poles, that
the national values kept them united during a lot of wars and battles in which
they were involved. Being here, I noticed that Poles’ patriotism is similar
with that of Romanians. They honour their ancestors, being proud that they are
citizens of this country.
If in the past, flags were used
during the battles, nowadays they represent more than a way to identify one
country (thanks to the colours’ code), people can see an entire history in it.
Having in consideration that on 2nd
May, Poles celebrate the Day of the Flag, I want to remind in some words
something about the flag of this country.
The flag of Poland is composed by
two horizontal and equal stripes, one white above the red one. The flag was
adopted in 1919 after one year of independence, but the colours are adopted as
national in 1831. Also, flags with red and white colours existed in Poland
since the tenth century.
Poles didn’t choose these colours
without reasons, which for me it represents an entire lesson of history. So,
the red colour symbolizes the Poles bloodshed in their fight to become an
independent country, and white which symbolizes peace.
Since 2004, the Flag’s Day is celebrated
on 2nd May. Like in others celebration, but especially to this
occasion, the national flag is hoisted by many Polish companies and by Poles (I
was impressed by the big number of hoisted flags in people’s yards).
In the whole world there are other flags
similar with the polish one, including those of Indonesia and Principality of Monaco.
In comparison with the flag of
Poland, the Flag of Romania has a different story.
The flag of Romania is a tricolour
with three vertical and equal stripes, the proportion of the flag being 2:3.
The colours have the next order beginning from the flagpole: blue, yellow and
red.
As a result revolutionary manifestations
which took place in the Romanian Country in 1848, was adopted as the national
flag whose colours were arranged horizontally from the bottom with red, yellow
and blue. The national flag will be adopted like we know today in 1866, when
was adopted the first Constitution of Romania.
The meaning of the colours is
connected with the revolution’s ideology and the unity of the Romanian
Principalities: blue symbolizing the liberty (the colour of the skies), yellow
symbolizing the justice (the colour of the lands), and red symbolizing the
fraternity (the colours of the blood).
The Flag’s Day was adopted in 1998,
and Romanians celebrate it on every 26th June, recalling the
revolutionary victory day of the 26th June 1848, marking the 150th
anniversary of the official adopted of the colours of the flag.
In Romania, this day is celebrated
with military parades and with hoisting the national flag by Romanians, but I
want to say that in the National Day people react more than in this day.
In the world there are similar flags
to that of Romania, like flags of: Andorra, Chad and Moldavia.
I want to say that at the end of this article
like I am full of Romanian spirit and more
